FB: WCC race appears wide open

HA Staff Report

This is the
last year Speedway will compete in the West Central Conference, a league they
have dominated in football for well over a decade. The Sparkplugs are once
again a powerful unit, but they may have some serious competition this time
around.

Monrovia
highlighted week two results in the WCC by steamrolling Cascade 55-0. That
means in the first two weeks, the Bulldogs have outscored two conference
opponents by a combined score of 105-0. Meanwhile, Speedway kept pace by
downing Greencastle 35-14. It leaves the two squads tied at the top of the
league standings.

By the way,
do not get too caught up in the challenge from Monrovia because there may be
another from South Putnam. The Eagles have yet to play a league game, but they
also moved to 2-0 on the season by downing traditional power Tri-West Friday
night. The final was 23-20. Things will get no easier for South Putnam. They
will host 1A bully Rockville next week.

Elsewhere in
the conference, Southmont upset North Putnam 28-13 leveling the Cougars at 1-1
for the campaign. West Vigo handed Cloverdale a second consecutive loss. The
Clovers fell 33-25.
