SB: West Central conference teams getting state respect

There seems
to be a new power emerging in 2A softball. The West Central Conference is
flexing some new muscle. Three league teams are ranked among the top 20 in Indiana
this week. The list is headlined by Speedway in the seventh spot. They are
followed by South Putnam which is tied for 13th and North Putnam
which comes in at #20. Here is a look at the complete poll in all classes.

THE PAPER

Led
behind senior Creasy Clauser’s two individual wins, Southmont High
School’s girls track team won Tuesday night’s home outdoor triangular
meet.

Clauser won the 800- and 1,600-meter races to lead Southmont to a six-point victory over Monrovia.

Southmont finished with 78 points, while Monrovia had 72. North Putnam (20) came in third.

Clauser
won the 800 in 2:23 and the 1,600 in 5:21. She also ran on the
Mounties’ winning 3,200 relay along with junior Dusty Lawton and
sophomores Kylie Lippencott and Madison Fouty.

Freshman Kara Price won the 100 hurdles (17.3 seconds), while sophomore Allie Norris took the 300 hurdles (51.4 seconds).

Junior Kyra Burton finished second in the high jump (4-feet, 8-inches) and the pole vault (8-0).

Sophomore Brooke Nace did the same in the shot put (27-6), as did junior Kelsey Bowman in the discus (75-4½) .

Southmont brothers Patrick and Ronnie Posthauer led the boys team to a second-place finish.

North Putnam won the meet with 71½ points, followed by Southmont (62½) and Monrovia (33).

Sophomore
Ronnie Posthauer won the 110 high hurdles (16.4 seconds), while senior
Patrick Posthauer won the 300 hurdles (43.5 seconds).

Other
individual winners included: juniors Kyle Utterback (pole vault, 10-0)
and Ethan Miller (3,200, 11:20.4), sophomores Jonathon Christensen
(high jump, 6-6) and Cole Wills (400, 57.9 seconds) and freshman Kyle
Burger (800, 2:17.3).

Patrick Posthauer also finished in second in the 110 hurdles (16.5 seconds), while Ronnie was second in the 300 hurdles.

Burger placed second in the 1,600 (5:11), as did junior Jacob Roberts in the 100 (12.4 seconds).

Southmont next competes Friday at the Charger Relays at North Montgomery.
