INDIANAPOLIS — Tri-West Hendricks and Class 2A No. 10 Speedway are the first two teams to advance in Sectional 46 at Covenant Christian (Indianapolis) after each team swept their opponent in three games Oct. 21, opening night for the 37th Annual IHSAA Volleyball State Tournament Series.
Tri-West outlasted North Putnam in three straight games, winning each game 25-12. Speedway survived the attack of Covenant Christian’s junior Kim Smith, the 6’2” middle hitter that has been causing problems for CC opponents all season.
Speedway was able to pull out a win after a tough fight in the third game. Games 1 and 2 came fairly easy for the Sparkplugs, ending in 25-9 and 25-20 victories. But in Game 3, CC pulled out all the stops. Long rallies ensued, and tie after tie took the game all the way to 28-26.
Tri-West (19-11) and Speedway (24-5) will now meet in the Sectional 46 semifinals Oct. 25.
